OPINION

Shannon Ladel Keys was convicted in 2005 by a Michigan jury of second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit unarmed robbery, and assault with the intent to rob while armed. Due in part to his "habitual offender" status, the Mecosta County Circuit Court subsequently sentenced Keys to life in prison...
