These appeals arise from litigation relating to the collapse in 2003, following a decade of wild growth and mounting losses, of a large Italian food and dairy company named Parmalat. Parmalat entered bankruptcy in Italy and Enrico Bondi was appointed "extraordinary commissioner," the Italian equivalent of a bankruptcy trustee. The litigation is highly complex; we'll simplify ruthlessly.
