Beth Ann Kelly died after receiving a fatal dose of fentanyl. Her estate subsequently brought this lawsuit alleging that the defendant's fentanyl patch caused Kelly's death. The defendant pleaded immunity under a Michigan statute that immunizes manufacturers of "drugs" from suit.
