The plaintiffs, an Illinois county and several of its officials, filed a class action suit in an Illinois state court on behalf of all the counties in the state against the mortgage services company MERSCORP Holdings, Inc., and a number of banks that do business with it. The suit alleges that MERSCORP is violating an Illinois statute that, the counties (as we'll call the plaintiffs) contend, requires every mortgage on real property in Illinois...
