Spirtas Company was hired to demolish a bridge. It subcontracted the blasting and demolition of the longest span to Dykon Explosive Demolition Corporation. Some of the explosive charges failed. The span was mangled. The full demolition took more time and resources to complete. Spirtas incurred additional costs, and the general contractor withheld some payment from Spirtas.
