Bonnie Rodrick tripped on a rug in front of a drinking fountain at a Wal-Mart store in Maryville, Missouri, in 2004, suffering injuries to her left hip. Invoking diversity jurisdiction, Rodrick sued Wal-Mart in 2007 asserting tort claims for her injuries. Following a four-day trial, a jury ruled in favor of Wal-Mart.
