Appellant James Guyton was sentenced for a crack cocaine offense before the Supreme Court held that the Sentencing Guidelines were advisory in United States v. Booker, 543 U.S. 220, 125 S.Ct. 738, 160 L.Ed.2d 621 (2005). Guyton's guideline range was based on the career offender guideline, U.S.S.G. § 4B1.1, but the district court granted a downward departure under section 5K1.1 based on his assistance...
