DAVIS, Circuit Judge:

A federal grand jury indicted Michael Hampton on one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, in violation of 18 U.S.C. §§ 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(2). The charge arose from the seizure of a pistol from Hampton's pants pocket by law enforcement officers who effected a traffic stop of a vehicle in which Hampton had been a back seat passenger.
