INTRODUCTION

A jury convicted Mark Thornton of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine and cocaine base (Count 1), possession with intent to distribute cocaine (Count 3), and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking conspiracy (Count 5). Thornton, who had three prior drug convictions, was sentenced to life imprisonment on Count 1 pursuant to a mandatory minimum sentence, as well...
