In an attempt to gain release from federal prison, Russell Dean Landers coordinated a scheme to extort the prison's warden and other federal officials by placing liens on their property. Instead of gaining release, though, Landers gained only jury convictions—one for mailing threatening communications, and another for conspiring to impede federal officials in the performance of their duties.
