The Federal National Mortgage Association ("Fannie Mae") and the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation ("Freddie Mac") regulate the residential-mortgage-loan industry by requiring mortgage brokers and lenders to consider a consumer's credit information before approving loans.
