John Douglas Grape suffers from a long history of serious mental illness and is currently incarcerated pending trial on two charges involving the receipt and possession of child pornography. The District Court initially found Grape incompetent to stand trial on these charges, and the Government correspondingly wished to medicate him involuntarily pursuant to Sell v.
