Craig Boesing, a Missouri prisoner, brought this 42 U.S.C. § 1983 civil rights action against Lieutenant Joe Spiess and other St. Louis police officers for using excessive force during Boesing's arrest. At trial, a jury found Spiess liable for Boesing's injuries and awarded him $5,000 in compensatory damages and $20,000 in punitive damages.
