BORDEN, J.

The dispositive issue in this appeal is whether the trial court improperly precluded the defendant from challenging the adequacy of the police investigation into the murder of which he was convicted. We conclude that the court did improperly restrict the degree of cross-examination of certain police officers regarding the adequacy of the investigation and, accordingly, we reverse the judgment of conviction.
