ELIA, J.
Defendant Darryl Shearer was convicted by a jury of first degree murder, which the trial court reduced to second degree murder. During trial the court excluded evidence that another person was responsible for the victim's death. (Evid. Code, § 1230.) On appeal, defendant contends that this ruling constituted prejudicial evidentiary error. We agree and therefore must reverse the judgment.
