Defendant Gilbert Espinoza shot at three boys walking along a sidewalk one evening, believing that at least one of them was a member of a rival gang. One of the victims was paralyzed. Espinoza was charged with three counts of attempted murder, and three counts of assault with a firearm, and it was alleged that he committed the offenses for the benefit of a criminal street gang.
