¶ 1 In February 1989, Valerie Gunnell, and her five-year-old and nine-month-old daughters were beaten to death in their Yuma apartment. After a jury convicted Alvie Kiles of three counts of first degree murder and two counts of child abuse, the trial judge sentenced Kiles to death for each murder.
