In 2009, appellant Donald Ray Mathis was found guilty by a jury of simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, and maintaining a drug premises. The drug premises was a motel room that appellant often occupied with a woman named Gwendolyn Miller. He was sentenced as a habitual offender to 1344 months' imprisonment.
