Appellant James Allen Hill was convicted by a Jefferson County jury of first-degree murder and was sentenced to 360 months' incarceration. The Arkansas Court of Appeals affirmed. Hill v. State, 2010 Ark.App. 488. Appellant then filed in the trial court a timely petition for postconviction relief, pursuant to Arkansas Rule of Criminal Procedure 37.1 (2011). The trial court did not hold a hearing on the petition, and it denied the requested relief...
