Roger Lankford suffered a compensable, work-related injury to his right shoulder in April 2007. Dr. Jeffrey Evans performed surgery on Lankford's shoulder, and Lankford's employer, Crossland Construction Company, paid benefits accordingly. Lankford eventually returned to work and continued to seek treatment from Dr. Evans.
