In 1985, appellant Kelley Patrick Mills entered a plea of guilty to capital murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole. In 1986, appellant timely filed in the trial court a petition and amended petition for postconviction relief pursuant to Arkansas Rule of Criminal Procedure 37.1 (1986).
