On April 10, 2008, Luvertte Williams1 was convicted of rape in the first degree, a violation of § 13A-6-61, Ala.Code 1975. He was sentenced to 30 years' imprisonment and was ordered to pay $50 to the Crime Victims Compensation Fund. Williams appealed his conviction and sentence to the Court of Criminal Appeals, which reversed his conviction. See Williams v. State, 73 So.3d 731
