On December 8, 1999, the appellant, Gregory Conrad Owens, entered pleas of guilty to three counts of third-degree robbery and one count of first-degree theft of property. The trial court sentenced him, as a habitual offender, to serve terms of life in prison on each conviction. See § 13A-5-9(c), Ala.Code 1975.
