Ed Davis was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (crack cocaine), a violation of § 13A-12-212(a)(1), Ala.Code 1975. Davis filed a pretrial motion to suppress the evidence seized as the result of an investigatory stop, namely, a plastic bag containing what was later determined to be crack cocaine.
