I. INTRODUCTION

A jury convicted Byron Kalmakoff of raping and murdering his cousin in the village of Pilot Point. Kalmakoff had just turned 15 when the crime was committed. The Alaska State Troopers sent to investigate the murder conducted four interviews with Kalmakoff while they were in Pilot Point. Before trial Kalmakoff moved to suppress his statements from those interviews...
