POSNER, Circuit Judge.

The defendant pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a gun, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1), which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison. But the judge found that because the defendant had three prior convictions of felonies classified as "violent" under the Armed Career Criminal Act, 18 U.S.C. § 924(e), he was subject to a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years. § 924(e)(1).
