¶ 1 After he confessed to writing graffiti on the interior of a stolen car, petitioner Leaa' Esola Unga (Unga) was convicted of vehicle prowling and taking a motor vehicle without permission. He argues that his confession was involuntary and should not have been admitted at trial because it was coerced by a detective's promise that he would not be charged with a crime for the graffiti.
