CARLEY, Justice.

Billy Ray Brown was charged with the malice murder of Larry Griggs and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. After a mistrial, a plea in bar was overruled, and Brown was retried before a jury and found guilty of both offenses. The trial court entered judgments of conviction on the guilty verdicts and sentenced Brown to life imprisonment for the murder and a consecutive five-year term for the weapons offense.
