A jury convicted Derek Glacken, the defendant, of murder in the first degree by reason of extreme atrocity or cruelty.1 Francis Sullivan, the victim, was stabbed at least thirty times after going outside for a walk with the defendant in the early morning hours of June 14, 1996. At trial the defendant argued that Sullivan's death was the result of excessive force used in self-defense...
