While bathing her eight-year-old daughter, Jane,1 on May 22, 2004, Jennifer Barkmeyer (Jennifer) noticed blood in the childs underwear. When the bleeding continued, Jennifer called her daughter's pediatrician for an appointment. On May 25, 2004, the pediatrician examined Jane and found bruising in her vaginal area.
