The defendant, Gregory Franks, was charged by bill of information with possession of 400 grams or more of a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance, cocaine, in violation of LSA-R.S. 40:967 F(1)(c). The trial court adjudicated defendant a third felony offender and imposed the mandatory sentence of life imprisonment without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.
