The plaintiff, an Illinois state prisoner, brought this suit under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 against several correctional officials, claiming that they retaliated against him because he tried to obtain evidence to defend himself against a disciplinary charge. The district court granted the defendants' motion to dismiss the complaint for failure to state a claim.
