The defendant, John M., was arrested and charged with various crimes stemming from his alleged sexual abuse of his daughter, R.1 After a bench trial, the court found the defendant guilty of four counts of sexual assault in the first degree in violation of General Statutes § 53a-70(a)(2), three counts of sexual assault in the second degree in violation of General Statutes § 53a-71(a)(1),2
