IRELAND, J.
In 2002, a Hampden County jury convicted the defendant, Miguel Gomez, of murder in the first degree based on deliberate premeditation. He also was convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm or ammunition without a firearms identification card in violation of G. L. c. 269, § 10 (a) and (h).
