On a snowy December day, defendant Richard G. Reed was driving a car owned by defendant County of Tompkins. Plaintiff was a passenger in that vehicle. Due to wintery road conditions, the vehicle began to fishtail into the opposite lane of traffic. When Reed attempted to correct the vehicle's path, the vehicle veered to the right side of the road, struck a mailbox, then swerved into the opposite lane perpendicular to the road.
