These cases, consolidated for trial, involve claims under 42 U.S.C.A. § 1983 (West 2003) by two employees of the School Board of Lee County, Virginia ("the School Board") that they were demoted because of their political affiliations. After a three-day trial, a jury found in favor of the two plaintiffs and awarded them compensatory damages for emotional harm. One of the plaintiffs was also awarded punitive damages...
