Kristi A. Shafer and Layne D. Shafer were married on April 26, 1991, and Kristi filed a complaint for dissolution of marriage on August 4, 2004. Although a decree of dissolution was entered on June 7, 2005, motions for new trial were sustained in part with the ultimate result that Layne filed his appeal on March 29, 2006 — which was timely. The divorce trial involved a number of somewhat complex issues, including Layne's premarital property...
