A jury convicted Gabriel Rodriguez of five counts of first degree murder and five counts of use of a weapon to commit a felony. The convictions arose from an attempted bank robbery that left five people dead. The district court sentenced Rodriguez to five terms of life imprisonment for the murders and five terms of 10 to 20 years' imprisonment for the weapons convictions, to be served consecutively.
