On the afternoon of October 15, 2003, the Staten Island Ferry Andrew J. Barberi (the "Barberi" or "Ferry") crashed into a maintenance pier near the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. The collision came without warning. The Ferry had been making its regularly scheduled trip from Whitehall Terminal, Manhattan, to St. George, Staten Island.
