ORTEGA, J.

Defendant appeals a judgment of conviction for two counts of aggravated murder, ORS 163.095. He contends that the trial court erred by admitting evidence that, near the time of the murders, he entered into a conspiracy to murder a different victim. We review the trial court's ruling on the relevance of the evidence for errors of law, State v. Hampton, 317 Or. 251, 254-56, 855 P.2d 621
