A jury convicted the defendant, Timothy D. Perkins, of the offense of attempted distribution of cocaine, a violation of La. R.S. 14:27 and La.R.S. 40:967(A)(1). Thereafter, the trial court sentenced the defendant to serve twenty years at hard labor, with the first year of the sentence to be served without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.
