The defendant, Clifford Ray Latin, Jr., was convicted of attempted possession with intent to distribute a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance, cocaine. He was sentenced to serve seven and one-half years at hard labor without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence, with credit for time served.
