¶ 1. The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMC) appeals a judgment of the Hinds County Circuit Court finding it liable under the Mississippi Tort Claims Act for the death of Brenda Easter. Gloria Johnson, Easter's sister, filed a medical malpractice action against UMC, alleging that its doctors, nurses, and medical lab staff deviated from the standard of care by failing to diagnose Easter with pneumonia.
