For the fifth time in the past fifteen years, this Court is called upon to clarify the breadth of county sheriffs'1 authority to investigate, cite, and arrest those who break the law. In a series of cases over that span, we have recognized sheriffs' authority to arrest for breaches of the peace or felonies committed in their presence and to enforce the Vehicle Code, but denied them the opportunity...
