Defendant, Jorge L. Mendez, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon (720 ILCS 5/24-1.1(a) (West 2004)) and possession of a firearm without a firearm owner's identification card (430 ILCS 65/2(a)(1), 14(c)(3) (West 2004)).
