In July 2005, the State charged defendant, LeRoy D. Thompson, with four counts of burglary (720 ILCS 5/19-1(a) (West 2004)) and three counts of criminal damage to property (720 ILCS 5/21-1(1)(a) (West 2004)). In June 2006, pursuant to a plea agreement, defendant pleaded guilty to the four burglary charges in exchange for a sentence cap of seven years' imprisonment and dismissal...
