Gregory Kirksey was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, see 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1), after police stopped the car in which he was riding and discovered a handgun. Mr. Kirksey moved to suppress the gun on the ground that its discovery was the fruit of a prolonged detention that, given the basis for the stop, was unreasonable.
