The State appeals from an order granting Thomas Wayne Patterson's motion for postconviction relief on the ground of ineffective assistance of trial counsel. After an evidentiary hearing, the postconviction court set aside Mr. Patterson's conviction for second-degree murder and awarded him a new trial. Because we find that Mr. Patterson failed to establish either deficient performance by his trial counsel or that trial counsel's alleged omissions prejudiced...
