Following a bench trial, the defendant, Arthur Stephens Campbell, was convicted as charged of armed robbery and simple kidnapping. The trial court adjudicated him to be a second felony offender. As such, he was sentenced to 51 years at hard labor without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence on the armed robbery charge. He was given a concurrent sentence of five years at hard labor on the simple kidnapping charge. The defendant appealed...
