SERNA, Justice.

{1} Elias Chavez (Defendant) was indicted on various charges. The question of his competency to stand trial was raised, and he was found incompetent by stipulation of the parties. He was ordered committed to State custody for treatment to competency. Approximately nine months later, the State moved to criminally commit Defendant for the period of time equal to the maximum sentence for the offenses with which he is charged...
